In The Beginning

The Baby Jogger Company is the original designer and manufacturer of high performance three wheel jogging strollers for the last 20 years. Baby Jogger’s products are world renowned for their superior quality, innovative designs and simple functionality.

The Baby Jogger Company was established in 1984 by Phil Baechler, who was a journalist for a local newspaper as well as an avid runner. As Baechler wanted the opportunity to spend time with his then infant son without forsaking his favorite pastime, he began bringing his son along with him in his baby carriage while jogging. He quickly discovered that standard carriages were not made to endure the stress of long distance usage over various surfaces, so he designed a specialized stroller with features more conducive to running. He aptly named it the Baby Jogger. The Baby Jogger was constructed of a sleek, lightweight anodized aluminum frame which had a Cordura nylon seat and three bicycle tires, making it the original three-wheeled stroller.

On the heels of creating the original jog stroller, the Company began to grow and there was a greater demand for jogging strollers throughout the country. In 1986, The Baby Jogger Company developed the first jogging stroller made for two children called The Twinner. The original Baby Jogger and Twinner models were both designed for serious runners, as the wheels were bolted on and neither had a folding mechanism. Over the next 10 years, various models were developed to accommodate different needs in the marketplace, including the Zipper, WalkAbout, FunAbout, Super Jogger, and Super Twinner. In 1994, the Company released the next generation of jogging strollers, called the Baby Jogger 2 and the Twinner 2. Both models were highlighted by a folding feature which required no tools, as well as quick release wheels that were offered in three sizes. These features added a convenient element to the design of the strollers as consumers could now easily fold and store them, making them the most well received of all models thus far, and setting the standard for later models.

Today, the Baby Jogger Company is the leading designer and manufacturer of high performance jog strollers. Thanks to a unique manufacturing process, The Baby Jogger Company produces the finest quality jog strollers in the world. In lieu of utilizing a low cost assembly line process, Baby Jogger strollers are manufactured using a staged assembly process whereby all components are locked in place during each step of construction. It is this process that significantly reduces the margin for error, therefore ensuring proper alignment, unbeatable quality and long term durability. In addition, all Baby Jogger Strollers are designed to be extremely lightweight and aerodynamic, allowing air to flow freely though the stroller, reducing wind drag--ultimately making them easier to push.

Since its inception, The Baby Jogger Company has continued to dominate the jog stroller industry with new high performance products. The most recent additions to the Baby Jogger family are the Q-Series and the Performance Series models. The Q-Series features a patented quick folding technology which enables users to fold the stroller in half with one quick and simple lift of a strap. For active families that are looking for a high performance jog stroller that is also great for everyday use and travel, the Q-Series offers a great alternative. For serious runners that are looking for the ultimate in safety and endurance on all terrains, the Performance Series is an ideal choice. The Performance Series features shock absorbers and a durable one piece frame, designed to endure the extreme stress encountered when being utilized for the grind of running long distances on a daily basis.

In 2003, The Baby Jogger Company was purchased by The Bag Boy Company, an industry leader in the golf push/pull cart, travel cover and bag markets, with Bag Boy executives David Boardman-CEO and Leighton Klevana-COO taking control of all operations for The Baby Jogger Company business. In 2004, Boardman and Klevana established a parent company for their portfolio of brands, and announced the formation of Dynamic Brands. Dynamic Brands is now the parent Company for The Bag Boy Company, The Baby Jogger Company, and AMF Golf – a collection of high quality and value priced men’s, women’s and junior golf products, with each respective Company operating as a division of Dynamic Brands.
